So as you said, Chris, these reforms are all designed to shift the dial.
We're going from
favouring the wealthy, older Australians in the market at the moment into the hands of the younger generations.
And Labor says that what this will do is ensure a fairer tax system for future generations as well.
So like you said as well, it's spending this political capital that they've gained because they did go into the election saying we will not change negative gearing, we will not change capital gains tax, and the coalition is waiting in the wings ready to go.
They are going to jump on this.
They already have.
We heard from the shadow treasurer last night, Tim Wilson, who was saying that the coalition will not support these changes.
But Jim Chalmers, when speaking on the ABC, he rushed straight from the budget speech into the studios in Canberra there.
He said, you know, we've changed our perspective.
That was his line.
And Sarah Ferguson was going...
well, you broke a promise.
And he's going, well, we changed our perspective.
So it's interesting to see that shift in commentary from the government to, oh, well, we had to make these changes.
It's like, well, what might have happened if they'd made these changes five years ago?
So it's interesting to see that that has finally come through in this budget.
It'll be interesting now to see
whether there's much of a political fallout.
They're really banking on younger Australians to back them in on this one.
