felt a little bit better, went home and sent an email saying it was over.

After you'd ended it with Jo, who did you reach out to on Facebook?

It's a very complex story, but I reached out to someone he had once mentioned, a mutual acquaintance, someone we both knew.

And this person and I were friends on Facebook, but most of us use that word friends very lightly these days because if you're a professional, you do use Facebook as a networking thing.

And so I reached out to this person on Facebook and said, do you know this man?

And what did she tell you?

She said, oh my God, he's been going out with a friend of mine for three years.

What did you find out next?

The discoveries unfolded over a long period of time after that.

I think I possibly only had the capacity to absorb so much at one time.

But that night, with another friend on the phone from Melbourne, one of my best friends in Melbourne, we sat on the phone and went through together this woman's Facebook page, the other woman, Kirstie, I describe her in the book.

And at that stage, this was late 2015, I think we were a little bit less concerned about privacy with our social media back then.

And her pages, both Instagram and Facebook, were open.

And she'd posted a lot of photographs, if not of him, with hints of him or his dog in the photograph.

And so I was able to see, putting together Instagram and Facebook, that almost every time he lied to me about dogs and sheep and children, he was with her.

Oh, some of them he was there, front and centre, face and everything.

But others I would see his hand.

You come to know someone, the geography of someone's hand when you have been with them for 15 months.

And he had large hands.
