Sexuality wasn't brought up.

You would save yourself for marriage.

We'd go to church on Sundays.

And mum and dad were people of action.

They didn't just want to go to church.

They wanted everyone in New Zealand to know about Christ.

A clown's mistake was this performance that had been done in America where a group of Pentecostal Christians would dress up as clowns and perform this show.

So mum and dad got that vinyl record in the 80s and they just loved it.

They couldn't believe how great it was.

And they decided to buy a set of clown costumes.

They built a little group of Christians who thought that maybe this was a good idea and

And they would put the makeup on their faces.

And on Saturday mornings, our house would be full of clowns, you know, a dozen clowns.

They would also recruit us.

So we'd be dressed as clowns.

We'd get into a van, which must have been a ludicrous sight driving through Auckland.

But then they would set up a small PA and they would perform a clown's mistake, which was this seven minute performance about, it was a little scary what was coming if you weren't a Christian and why Christ could save you from that.

At the age, you know, you're five, six, seven, you just think that everyone does this kind of thing.

My parents tell me, I don't remember this, but they tell me about a miracle that happened where it was pouring with rain, which it often does in New Zealand, and the clowns got together and prayed.
