So once you had a weather window and the catamaran dropped you and your surf ski out 500 kilometres or so from the shore...

It was so quiet.

What was it like paddling when the wind was behind you down there in the Southern Ocean?

Oh my gosh.

Once you had made it across that bight, as you say, no one had ever done it that way before, were you elated?

So you rounded the southwest tip of Australia, passing the lighthouse at Cape Natural East and begin heading up the coast.

And the Zootdorp Cliffs are an infamous stretch of coastline in West Australia.

What did those cliffs mean for you on your little surf ski in the water?

Misery Bay, Shark Bay.

Absolutely.

Can't say you weren't warned.

You did get back in and you made it to Exmouth, about halfway up the West Australian coast.

At this point, you desperately needed a new support vessel.

Your catamaran had other commitments.

Who came to your rescue?

You didn't realise it at the time, but they were famous.
