But do people realize how close the Canucks are to the cap floor as it is?
Break it down.
So the Canucks are at $82 million on the salary cap.
The cap floor is $76.9 million.

And they have two roster spots open.
If you put two league minimum guys, you're talking about six and almost $7 million in cap space.
You move one player, like Jake DeBrus, you're essentially at the cap floor.
And if you're moving multiple players...
You're going to be under the cap floor, which means you're going to have to spend to get to the cap floor regardless.
So I don't disagree that the Canucks are looking to move money, but I don't get this thing that the Canucks are trying to get rid of all their contracts to save money.
Well, you're not going to be saving all that money short term because you still have to spend to the cap floor.
And the cap floor next season is going to be close to $80 million.
