We'll get to the Canucks rumor roundup.
We're going to do some of that now because the rumors are coming in fast and furious at this time of year in the offseason, with the draft being a week away.
So we'll get to that coming up in a moment.
But the big news in the National Hockey League today...
was the Toronto Maple Leafs acquiring Darren Radish, the breakout defenseman who had a massive season for the Tampa Bay Lightning, to an eight-year contract worth $8.5 million.
And what they gave up to acquire, the pending UFA, who would have been a UFA in less than two weeks, was a fifth-round draft pick.
Now, it was technically a sign-and-trade because that's the only way that Radish could have got the eight-year deal.
Tampa signed him to that contract, traded him for a fifth-round draft pick,
And obviously, a return is low because he's a pending UFA.
And that's generally what those types of guys go for.
Now, it has created a lot of discourse about what are the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to do.
And we are going to talk about power ranking the future outlook of Canadian hockey teams and where the Leafs fit in.
And we all know the Canucks are on this long journey now in rebuilding, but...
what are the Leafs?
What are they trying to do?
The question, the main question here is, is Darren Radish, as much as he's a dynamic offensive player who had a breakout year of the season, but one year of actual high-end production, worth $8.5 million over eight years at the age of 30?
I like it for Toronto.
I don't root for the Maple Leafs.
