To me, the likelihood of a coaching change is dependent on who the GM is, ultimately.
Because I could see if Ryan comes in and he has a lay of the land and he has a good relationship with Manny, especially once you kind of see what happens here at the draft, that he might make that switch compared to Evan Gold.
Whether it's Gold or whoever else comes in, I think it's more likely they just go with the status quo.
Because generally, you don't play that card right away.
And if anything, you kind of come in and you're like, let it play out.
And the way I look at it too is, if you're a new GM coming in and not Ryan Johnson, and you know that this year, next year is going to be a rebuilding year, that's not going to be great.
Why burn next year on a new head coach anyways?
Because the runway for a new head coach is still going to be limited, right?
You bring somebody on, you can't just be like, well, you're going to lose for five years and still stay on the job.
There's still a level of, can you still grow with that person?
And the person that comes in, is he going to be the head coach when your team actually turns the corner?
If it's going to take three to four years to turn the corner,
You might be on to a third head coach by the time you do that.
So is it prudent to some degree if you're a new general manager just coming in and saying, just let this year play out.
If we have to make a change in season, we'll deal with it then.
But then when we bring the next person in, it'll be one year later in the process.
And it's more likely that that person sticks through the next kind of curve.
And perhaps he's here when the team is ready to be more competitive.
