I would argue the key to the game is the fouls on one particular human, and that's Terrace Reed.
Terrace Reed is the straw that stirs the drink for UConn, but he is extremely foul-prone.
Last year, against Ken Palm Tier A Top 50-ish teams, Terrace Reed averaged 7.4 fouls per 40 minutes.
This year, he improved slightly to five fouls per 40 minutes against TRA opponents.
That means Terrace Reed is not playing 40 minutes against good teams.
This has been a...
Theme in UConn's games throughout the season is keeping Terrace Reed on the court.
It's something I'll talk a little bit more when we talk about the players.
But for Duke, if Duke can attack Terrace Reed and get an early foul or two on him, the entire complexion of the game changes.
Yeah, I think that there's...
The way to think about UConn this year is that there are some places where they're very, very similar to last year's team that was a little bit of a disappointment that ended up in eighth seed going out in the second round.
And there are a couple places where they have really upped their game and improved over last year's team.
Terrace Reed is the most obvious spot.
He's a guy who arguably should have been playing more last year over Samson Johnson, who is a senior who started last
at the center position for most of the year.
Terrace Reed is a classic back-to-the-basket big man.
He is a bruiser.
He is not going to take threes.
He's also not going to do a cambooser-like back you down from the perimeter, start you off the dribble, and then turn back.
He is going to get the ball on the block and then give you an array of post moves that are dizzying at times.
