And they went into this knowing that they would never be recognized, and they don't want to be recognized.
But Don's the last man standing.
This group was first founded in 1961, and in 1994, it was dissolved.
But in 1971, his best friend purchased this document, this 1908 last upgrade of the Templar records.
And he realized in 1994 that he was dying of Parkinson's disease and arterial sclerosis.
He was a medical doctor.
And so what he did was he decided in 94 to sell the document to the Vatican.
And of course, when I first heard this, I went, what?
Bill, no, no.
I never met Bill, but I feel like I know him after all this time and all the documents I've read, letters of his I've read, and hearing about him from Don.
But what I did not know is that he only sold a part of the document to the Vatican.
And he also took photographs of it, and he left it for Don, so we have pictures of everything he sold.
but the most important documents, he disseminated them to his colleagues in the agency with strict instructions upon their deaths.
This material would go to Don Rue.
And we actually have a letter from one of those packages that we got from the executor of the estate of the colleague that passed away, where Bill said, I leave this material to Don.
He was my best friend.
He was the only one that took my research seriously.
And he was the youngest of the Spartan personnel and will probably outlive everybody.
And that's exactly what's happened.
But Don just turned 83 a couple of weeks ago.
