This from the preeminent Penguins historian and a great man, Bob Grove.
These are the longest stretches where Sid hasn't played in his career in the Penguins record in said stretches.
A 61-game stretch, they were 34-19-8, a 6-23 winning percentage.
40-game stretch, 26-13-1, a 6-62 winning percentage.
28 games, 18-6-4 with a 7-14 winning percentage.
21 games, 11-6-4, 6-19 winning percentage.
12 games, 8-4 with a 6-67 winning percentage.
Now, a lot of the early numbers were earlier in Sid's career, and the team was better.
Let's just call it what it is.
But it all seems to hinge on number 71.
And do you Penguins fans believe that 71 can get it done again and get these Penguins to the Stanley Cup playoffs?
4-1-2-9-2-8-9-3-7-0.
We're believing in Geno?
I mean, clearly, whenever Sid's out, that they play decent.
They play better than decent.
They play on average to a higher winning percentage than the current team has now.
Right.
And we've seen it the other way, too.
Like when Geno's been out, Sid, he goes ham.
