I think in his first start, maybe he had like three or four or five walks, but...
He was right out of the gate, pretty dominant, and the Pirates were close to getting to the playoffs that year.
But there's no doubt you could argue that, what was it, five or six weeks that he was not up with the team, that they would have probably won more games had he broke
camp with the Pirates, you would have got that compensatory draft pick for him winning Rookie of the Year as well.
I think this does go back to your question, did Sherrington do enough this offseason?
If they had signed Suarez or a comparable player at third base, you wouldn't probably have to lean so heavily upon the hope that Griffin comes up and is great right away.
Not at all.
Now, if he proves that he's ready.
That's why they play the games.
Would you then champion for adding a third baseman between now and the start of the season?
Why are we so confident that the Astros want to do that?
Yeah, I would be curious what the Pirates would have to give up.
But to me, if you bring him in, that's the guy that you're going to pencil into the lineup on a regular basis.
So then you probably have Triolo just as a placeholder.
And then Nick Gonzalez is maybe a utility guy, maybe doesn't even start.
At the Major League level.
I would say that that could be the lineup, but I would also have concerns about some of those guys need to have major bounce back seasons.
Cruz is coming off of a miserable season.
Reynolds is coming off of, by his standards, a miserable season.
So I would also be okay if those guys got moved down in the lineup if they don't pretty quickly show that they are a different player in 2026 than they were in 2025.
