Pell Grants are typically awarded to
qualifying students who are pursuing undergraduate degrees or certificates, but under the new rule, that money will now also be available for students pursuing workforce training programs.
The grants are designed to help the country's lowest-income students access schooling beyond high school with the help of federal aid.
The inclusion of career and technical education is aimed to address labor shortages in healthcare and other high-demand industries.
More than half of surveyed school districts reported that this year's cost of diesel was over their allotted budget, with 14% of those districts reporting costs running more than 20% over budget.
The survey, conducted by the School Superintendents Association, looked at the cost of diesel for school bus fleets and how they were filling the gaps in the inflated landscape.
Some measures included consolidating bus routes to save money, which 40 percent of the districts did, with about a quarter reducing the number of routes.
Other options included limiting non-required trips, like field trips.
When students and teachers logged onto Canvas last week in the middle of final season, many were met with a black screen with a note from a ransomware group demanding money in exchange for control back of the platform.
The platform came back online a short while later, but the state of the stolen data remained a question for a few days.
Now, Instructure, the parent company of the software, has released a statement saying an agreement was met with the bad actors in exchange for return of the data, destruction of data, and promises for no extortion of any Instructure customers.
The statement did not say whether payment was involved in the deal.
