It definitely highlights a need to reform the sentencing framework.
I believe there's no formal sentencing guidelines around manslaughter and murder.
We felt it was certainly much more on the higher end of the higher range.
Yeah, yeah.
I think the judges have a lot of discretion here because of the lack of guidelines in place.
And as the family of a victim going into a courtroom, you really don't know what end of the scale they're going to place their sentence and decision and their reasons behind it.
When those reasons don't make sense to the family, you walk out of that courtroom feeling
feeling completely let down by the system.
So I guess that's another one of the reasons why we want to speak out about it now as well is, you know, these one punch attacks are scarily common.
Where's the deterrent for it when they're getting light sentences?
particularly people who have previous convictions and are offending over and over again.
