I always explain about a flashbang.

A flashbang, a little grenade canister that has no shrapnel, but we use it when we were serving search warrants or making entry into a building.

You take the pin, you throw it in there, boom, it's a loud noise, it's a bright light and percussion.

Well, it's designed to take away your hearing, it's designed to take away your vision temporarily, and it's designed to discombobulate you so that we can come in and take control of you.
