And he walked in the foyer for a matinee, surrounded by people, surrounded by fans.
And he said, ah, there you are.
Come into the dressing room.
So I wandered into the dressing room and he said, are you tired?
Where have you come from?
New Zealand.
You tired?
Actually, no.
Good.
Undress me and make me tea.
And that's how we started.
Yes, I was his dresser.
He was about to perform, he was about to dance.
That was a matinee and then there was an evening performance and he needed tea, hot, sweet black tea to fuel his body.
So I always carried tea with me from that day onwards.
I always carried a thermos of tea.
I carried Earl Grey tea in my bag so all my clothes smelled Earl Grey tea.
Well, he would stand there and I'd undress him and put on his dance clothes.
The only thing he'd put on was his sort of, I guess, jockstrap is the athletic word.
But everything else, he had a bit of arthritis in one shoulder.
