Occasionally, my job, apart from massage and driving and security and dressing, was his cook.
I had to cook for him.
That was in the contract.
And I couldn't cook.
I'm not a great cook.
But he said, you must.
Don't be so strict.
Don't be so severe.
So I had to learn to cook.
And then whenever I cooked for him or his guests, so it was really good to be able to try and tease out from him his youth.
His father didn't want him to become a ballet dancer.
His father was a political commissar in the Soviet army.
So his father beat him to try and beat some sense into him.
But that just instilled, Rudolf, I want to do this.
I want to be a dancer and I want to be a great dancer.
He was in Paris, and the KGB, who really ran everything, were on that tour, and they didn't like what he was doing.
He was hanging out with French locals.
He was going to bars and cafes, too free with his mouth.
Just before they were about to get on a plane to fly to the UK, to fly to London, I believe, they said, there's no room for you on this plane.
You have to go back and dance at the Kremlin.
