You have to understand there was nothing in his life, apart from a statue with nice buttocks, there was nothing in his life but ballet.
Dance was everything.
When he couldn't dance, he choreographed, and he was a brilliant choreographer.
And so his language came from dance.
It was very shorthand.
He often used his hands in a very quick maneuver, and ballerinas could understand this because they'd grown up with it.
