I can see this from both sides, right?
I have spent 20 years writing about property, writing about buy-to-let, writing about tenants, right?
So writing about landlords, writing about tenants, writing about property.
But more to the point, my mum is a letting agent.
She runs her own letting agency.
It's a one-woman band, and she has been running it for, I don't know, 40 years maybe now?
No, maybe not quite that long, nearly 40 years, right?
now it's true
You know, there aren't that many requirements to become a letting agent.
There are more than there used to be.
Right.
But my mum doesn't have any professional qualifications as a letting agent.
I mean, she's worked in the property.
She worked as letting agent before I was born, you know, for estate agents in London and stuff like that.
And then she set up on her own after she had kids.
But, you know, she's a better letting agent than somebody who's managed to do a six or 12 month course and got themselves a certificate.
Right.
Because the key thing is that my mum is one of those letting agents who makes sure that the landlord looks after their tenants and also looks after the tenants herself.
Because as a landlord, the thing that you want most of all is your property to be rented out and rented out consistently, consistently.
The thing that costs you money is void periods when your property isn't rented out and bad tenants who cause you problems and make a mess of the property.
