At the time I was involved in this, the Soviet Union, in its dying days, was extremely active in New Zealand in trying to penetrate our systems.

There was something of a blitz of it, as far as I could see, and we had a lot of problems with that.

Well, they were doing all sorts of things and they were trying to get hold of people who were sometimes members of the government, sometimes supporters of it, sometimes influential people in other areas.

And...

They had a sort of full-court press going, as far as I could see my memory of it.
