So you can understand why it's such a crucial thing that the ACCC is looking at and that Woolworths and Coles are obviously really wanting to defend their use of.
Yeah, we had the former ACCC chair, Alan Fels, calling it the case of the century.
And now he's calling this the sequel to the case of the century.
So there's a lot of attention on it, undoubtedly.
And yeah, as you say, there's a lot at stake.
The fines could be upwards of hundreds of millions of dollars.
It's really hard to quantify that because just reading the documents this morning, there's 266 products being dealt with in this Woolies case and
The ACCC is alleging that a breach occurred every time someone bought one of those products after looking at the ticket.
So I don't even know how to begin to try and extrapolate that.
But, you know, this could be a huge win for the ACCC or really seen perhaps by the public as a complete waste of money, depending on the outcome and perhaps emboldening the supermarkets further to just continue with their pricing strategies.
And it has been interesting as well.
there were a few analysts ahead of the trial saying that if the ACCC wins and then we see Woolworths and Coles having to change how they offer prices, consumers might even end up paying higher prices because they won't have as much flexibility to offer these price dropped campaigns.
Perhaps we'll have to have longer periods of higher prices before products can then go on promotion.
So definitely isn't a black and white outcome in terms of people, you know,
wanting to rail against the supermarkets and that's going to lead to cheaper groceries.
So it's definitely a big deal for two of Australia's biggest companies.
We're still waiting on Coles so that it could be months still, I think, because it's several months now since the Coles case.
And as you say, major cases with lots at stake.
So yeah, I'm not going to be holding my breath for a very quick resolution here.
quite foreign to us here in Australia with our sort of a letter from the treasurer goes out and that's sort of a tick box.
