The shelter in place is still in effect for Brown University area and the university buildings are on lockdown.

Police do not know if the gunman is still in the area.

So it's eerily quiet around the campus.

About 400 law enforcement officers in total are canvassing the area and obviously that's much wider than just the campus at this point.

looking for this gunman throughout the city.

Obviously, the big question is whether he is still here, and we don't know that.

And so that is why the shelter-in-place is still in effect until we have some sort of additional information.

The mayor did say at a news conference a short time ago that there is no indication that there's an imminent threat.

I assume that's because the gunman has not been spotted since he left that engineering building.

But just very, very tense, obviously devastating night, and I'm sure devastating days to come, especially as we learn more about the victims.

All or most of these victims are students here at Brown.

There were finals going on in that building at the time, and so we don't know yet where exactly all of this took place or what the students were doing at the time, but we do know that that was why there were students in the building on a Saturday, is that they were taking finals.
