So that's kind of the buy-in that you have to get to pick up a gun and go shoot somebody in the head on behalf of somebody else.
You have to believe that there's something that's bigger than you that's asking you to do it, or they have to be able to hone in on the thing that's encumbering you.

And that had happened to him, and we don't find out until we realize that he lost his wife.
