It happens.
It's not just correctional officers.
And I kind of want to always let that be known.
During COVID, there were no visitors.
So maybe, yes, it was only the correctional officers.
It could be civilian staff, too.
They're there just as long as we are.
These 16-hour shifts, sadly, after 16 hours of being with somebody for five days a week, you tend to kind of like, you know, have conversations and get to know the person.
You know their ins and outs.
I know when Matt gets a haircut.
I know when he's coming off.
I know when he's going to work.
I know when his vacation is because you kind of live with these people.
I'm getting there on top of getting my bi-weekly check, which gets better because now my time on the job is steady.
I'm doing a certain amount of overtime.
Longevity is a factor.
So I'm getting close to my top pay.
Top pay back then, 2012, 13, 14 for a correction officer.
was $89,000 base.
And then, again, coming with the overtime, uniform allowance, holiday pay, you could bring home $115,000.
