The Supreme Court declined to hear petitions from drug companies challenging Medicare drug price negotiations.
Medicare was banned from bargaining over drug prices until a new law passed in 2022.
Medicare, which provides health benefits to seniors, began negotiating the first brand-name drug prices in 2024.
Those prices went into effect this January, including a 79 percent discount for diabetes drug Genuvia.
The program is now negotiating its third round of lower drug prices, set to take effect in 2028.
The drug industry has opposed Medicare drug price negotiation, but this may be the end of the road for many of the court cases.
The trade group for brand-name drugs, Pharma, has a remaining lawsuit pending in a lower court.
The group says a law that enabled the price negotiations is unconstitutional.
Eli Lilly is researching retatrutide.
Unlike Wegovy and Zepbound, which target the GLP-1 hormone, this new drug works on three hormones, GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon.
The company says that in the clinical trial, people taking it for 80 weeks lost an average of more than 70 pounds at the highest dose.
That's compared with 5.5 pounds for the patients taking a placebo over the same time period.
And people taking Eli Lilly's experimental drug lost more weight than people taking Zetbound or Wegovi over a similar time period in other studies.
Common side effects were similar to other GLP-1 drugs, including nausea and other gastrointestinal issues.
