There was, I'm desperate to see what's on the other side of that wall.
I'm desperate to go any way I can.
But this was the early 90s and I didn't know any way of doing that.
So the plan, to the extent there was a plan, was that I just kept telling people I wanted to go and eventually somebody knew somebody in this barrister in Darwin, Peter Barr, by chance had been to Czechoslovakia and taught in a little town called SedlΔani.
And he arranged for me to go there.
So I went for three months to teach English at this high school in a country, Czech town, knowing nothing.
I wasn't a teacher.
I didn't know how to teach second language.
I couldn't speak Czech.
I knew nothing.
I just said, thanks, Peter.
Got a ticket, got my visa.
The visa arrived two days before I left.
I just jumped on a plane and went.
It was all I wanted to do.
I did not think how I would land.
Right.
So you might have seen pictures of Prague, which is, I think, the most beautiful city in the world.

And what was the reality of Settelcani when you got there?
