In a way, it sounds like a therapeutic experience, the complete opposite of what I associate with going to the doctor.

What have you seen in the way your patients relate to you that might be different than when you're in a clinical setting, in a hospital or an office setting?

There is a story in the book, a teenage girl and her mother brings her in with severe abdominal pain.

And she hasn't even had her period yet.

You know what I was struck by in that story is something I think we all know, but we may not think about when we think about your job.

You're not only just a doctor, you're a social worker, you're a therapist.

You are also someone who's kind of giving cultural and medical competency and knowledge to people.
