But there is some modifiable factors.
So not all of us can be super-agers if we got really unlucky with
our genes, but all of us can boost our brain resilience a bit.
The most well-substantiated evidence goes to exercise, which you won't be surprised is good for you.
Exercise boosts your brain resilience.
It boosts your vasculature.
It reduces inflammation.
And both of those things are known to impact brain aging.
And it also directly boosts this adult hippocampal neurogenesis.
So you make a chemical called brain-derived neurotrophic factor when you exercise, and that stimulates this neurogenesis in that part of the brain.
Yeah, it's a long term path.
But genetic treatments, I mean, I don't think we'd be going for gene therapy to make you a super ager, at least not in the next coming decades.
The brain is phenomenally complex.
But as we get more and more little pieces of this picture, we will be able to, as scientists and clinicians, work towards drugs that can boost brain health.
