doesn't matter i'm going to play whatever's running at a convention because that's how i'm going to get my shadow run on and that'll be true whatever seven looks like an eight and so on i'm gonna play whatever's out there because it's fun to be part of that community and doing that in play maybe if i were running something at home i might consider doing an older edition of some game that i like but there as sean said i would probably just run a different game

You know, because almost every edition gets better in enough ways going forward that to go back is to end up in like a different era of play with the things that come from that. Unless you're willing to make it your full time homebrew to like make it exactly what you want.

Yeah, you can play Pathfinder, you can play Pathfinder 2, you could play 13th Age, you could... And yeah, 13th Age is a great example because it combines sort of the best of 3rd and 4th, right? And you can see 4th in Drawsteel, you can see it in Daggerheart, and maybe that might be more fun to you because it also is bringing in these new ideas. Or not, right?

There's nothing wrong with... I mean, I loved 4th Edition, so there's nothing wrong with my just playing 4e, but the truth is that once i start working on like a new edition of a game which is usually dnd My brain becomes so locked into those rules that I just forget everything about the previous rule set. And so to go back to it is to have to relearn it.

And that may hurt my understanding of the current game if I'm really going to run a campaign that way. And I've seen this, you know, I've seen folks, for example, who play Pathfinder and D&D who will say things like, OK, roll to confirm that crit. And I have to say to them, you know, we don't do that, right? Oh, sorry. Yeah.

So that's something I try to avoid because I want my design to be really crisp on whatever RPG I'm writing for. And so it's too much of an issue if I'm going back and forth like that.

When you went third edition and your intelligence was drained and now you had to re-figure out how many spell slots you had. Nobody was having fun doing that. I've never seen anybody go, oh, yippee, I need to decide which spells I've lost and how to adjudicate this. No, thank you. Right.
