The European Union wants full clarity on Washington's next steps and expects an agreement the two sides made last August to be respected.
That accord set a 15 percent import duty on most EU goods other than those which are already covered by other U.S.
tariffs, such as steel and aluminum.
Some products even have zero tariffs in the agreement.

Speaking in the capital of Nuuk, Greenlandic Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeld and her Danish counterpart, Lars-Lukke Rasmussen, welcomed the visit of a small delegation of U.S.
lawmakers, including Senators Lisa Murkowski from Alaska and Maine's Angus King.
Rasmussen expressed cautious optimism about ongoing negotiations with the U.S.
over President Trump's interest in having a greater presence on the island.
Canada and France have just opened diplomatic offices in Greenland to show added support.

The international polling company YouGov says the view of the U.S.
in most of Western Europe is the lowest seen in the decade it's been tracking.
A survey conducted last month in Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and Spain showed the impact of the Greenland crisis on European attitudes, with unfavorability spiking in all of them since last November.
The figure was the highest in Denmark, with 84 percent of citizens holding a negative view of the U.S.
A separate question asking whether the U.S.
