Sandra, who was just 28 years old, was living in Colala caring for her elderly aunt when she was last seen in the local chipper just before midnight.
Five days later, her fleece was found abandoned on a local pier, but no other trace of Sandra has ever been found.
There have been arrests, trials and even a reclassification to murder, yet the case endures as one of Ireland's most tragic and unsolved mysteries.
I'm Tessa Fleming and today on the IndoDaily, I'm joined by Crime World's Nicola Tallent and Jenny Friel to discuss their latest podcast series, Ghost, which digs into the life, the mystery and the enduring questions around Sandra Collins' disappearance.
Nicola Tallent and Jenny Freel, Crime World have a new podcast series, Ghost, which examines the disappearance of Sandra Collins.
And I suppose it happened so long ago, over 20, 25 years ago.
So for people maybe who aren't aware of Sandra and her story and her disappearance, maybe just take me back and in particular, tell me about her early life and what we know about Sandra.
Jenny, I suppose when you're listening to Nicola there talk about Sandra's life, she was taken out of school at 15.
She spent a number of years caring for her elderly aunt.
I mean, it's such a massive responsibility to burden as a young woman.
It's such a hard life for such a young woman as well.
And I imagine looking in, it's almost quite unfair that she had to shoulder so much responsibility at such a young age.
Nicola, take me back to the 4th of December 2000.
This was the night that Sandra disappeared.
What do we know about the facts of the case and when Sandra was last seen?
When did the alarm bell ring that she had disappeared?
I mean, who noticed first and how did the search happen?
And was that something that was known that she'd been pregnant before?
Yes.
Jenny, there was a man that came to the attention of GardaΓ.
