kind of packed lunches in dark fields. I have a brother who was a soldier for many years, and we've always compared notes, and I think we live very similar lives, in fact, and less perilous to make films, for sure. But you're right, there is a chain of command that I know that that soldiers live and die by, that we don't necessarily, certainly not, maybe in studio filmmaking more.

How central my response to my father and my grandfather's uniforms has been. I used to watch my parents getting dressed up to go out to grand parties. And my mother would wear some really nice silk dress and look beautiful.

And I have always been truly, sincerely and seriously interested in clothes and what they do for us and to us. I was one of four, but I have three brothers, no sisters. And I didn't have many dresses.
