My dad, you know, like I say in the book, you know, he drank alcohol, and he was –

You know, he abused my mom, you know, and it was just because of the alcohol.

He really didn't know.

Well, he knew, but alcohol really, really took over a lot of the things that he did around the house.

We were scared of him.

We were scared.

I used to bite my nails and all that type of stuff.

But basketball was the way out for me and to just get out there and be physical and clear my mind and to get away from stuff.

And he was a basketball legend in the streets of Chicago.

And a lot of people knew him.

And, you know, I just gravitated to basketball and I watched him play and I took over his attitude on the court, how to play, how to, you know, play tough, how to defend your man, how to go to the basket, how to think the game, how to understand the game, how to, you know, understand your opponent.

and all that.

And, um, but yeah, you know, it was kind of tough in my household and my, my, my mom finally got away from him, um, and left him when I was in sixth grade and I had to become a man right then and there because my brother, he was like, you know, he's seven years behind me.

So it was like, uh, you know, he was just a baby and we had to, uh, you know, uh, I had to become a man right then and there.

I had to take him up on, I had to,

you know, do what a man's supposed to do, take care of my brother when my mom wasn't at home.

But I took him to a lot of places.
