They still remember what happened, but the emotional evidence, the emotional symptom, the emotional effects of that memory just has changed. They still know it happened, but they just feel different about it. Because as long as she had those strong memories, emotionally charged memories, her subconscious had proof that she wasn't good enough or that she wasn't worthy of love or whatever beliefs she picked up. Once the emotional energy is drained from that memory, and this is just one of a number of tools we use, but once that happens, It's like the world is open to someone thinking differently.
