So having good relations with Syria helps us somewhere.

You partner with the people that can be high utility for the goals that you are pursuing.
And if the goals you are pursuing are honorable, great.
I've got no beef with that.
But if you're either your goals are not honorable or you're just full of shit, either one of those things is lame to say the least.
