He knew what guys' capabilities were, and he never really asked anybody to go out there and do something he didn't think they were capable of doing.
And I think guys ultimately knew that.
And they respected that so that when they were called upon, they felt comfortable that they were in a situation where they had the best chance of succeeding and they weren't being asked to do something that they weren't good at doing or weren't capable of doing.
He got a little bit more mellow.
I think when Bobby first took over, you know, it was a little bit of that old school kind of hard-ass kind of approach, you know.
I think as time went on, I mean, you know, you take a simple thing like, you know, for the first โ
five, six years that Bobby was a manager, you know, guys couldn't wear sunglasses.
If you were going to wear sunglasses on the field, you had to wear the flip downs.
You know, you couldn't wear the Oakley's or any of that stuff.
And as time went on, you know, a simple little thing like that, Bobby mellowed over and, you know, let guys wear their sunglasses.

you're going to wear them.
You're not going to put them on your visor.
You're not going to put them on the back of your hat.
If you're going on the field, you better wear them.
Otherwise, they better be in your pocket.
I don't want to see them on your hat.
You know, those are just little quirky things that Bobby had, but I'm guessing that came from a lot of his Yankee days as a player because Yankees rules were very similar, you know, and I think Bobby carried a lot of that over to his managerial career, but, you know, simple little stuff like that.
He mellowed over a little bit over the years.
And listen, I mean, you have to, right?
