Tom Whipple

Ennen kuin lukea koko genoomin oikeudellaan, käsittelee sen hieman ja saa jotain. Ihmiset ajattelivat, ettei se ole niin tarkka, mutta hän ajatteli, että se olisi helpompaa ja nopeampaa. He earned his place in it. He undoubtedly made a huge, huge impact. I think the real legacy of him is scientists love to think of themselves as these nobly working selflessly for humanity.

Craig Venter very much thought of himself as doing that, but he did it a different way. And he did it through private companies and through being a maverick, through saying I'm not going to follow your norms. And I think sometimes scientists need a sort of kick up the bum like that. And he was certainly the one prepared to give the kick.
