Ash was a social psychologist in the 50s.
Very briefly, he did an experiment.
He called it a social perception experiment.
He had the person at the front of the room, people in a ring.
They'd show a sample size line, let's say three-inch line.
They have three sample lines, three, four, and five inches.
They had everybody in the room say which of the three was the same size as the sample line.
Okay.
They did it correctly twice.
And then all of the people who were in on the experiment started confidently giving the wrong answer.
But the person in seat six was then like,
A two-inch line is equal to a three-inch line?
