So that's what my thought process was.

And what helped me get out was learning what Chinese communist brainwashing methods were.

So they used a book that was published in 1961.

There was some red on the front cover, believe it or not.

It's called Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism, a Study of Brainwashing in China by psychiatrist Robert J. Lifton, former Air Force psychiatrist.

And he outlined eight criteria in Chapter 22, how to evaluate whether an environment does brainwashing.

And every single one, the Moonies did.
