His attorney, Ryan Peck, is seeking Instagram messages between a witness and the teen he shot and killed.

Meta's attorneys say users' data is protected by the Stored Communications Act.

That law allows them to divulge records to government entities, but they say criminal defendants don't qualify.

Access to social media records has also recently been at the center of cases in Washington, D.C.

About 1.2 million accounts follow Nicholas Sorter on X, and he describes himself as a journalist who covers stories the mainstream media won't.

During protests outside the U.S.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland on Thursday night, Sorter and two other people landed in custody for allegedly fighting.

Police charged all three with second-degree disorderly conduct.

Sorter blasted the city and its police after he was released Friday morning.

Police have made dozens of arrests outside the ICE building since this summer, the vast majority of them protesters.

The Oregon National Guard has begun calling up guards and has more than 160 members who volunteered so far.

While their arrival could in theory come Thursday, vetting them takes at least 96 hours.

Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Bomar with the Oregon Military Department says it's just as likely the troops won't be ready this week.
