The underground started in the 80s when all of it was underground.
You know, when we start to get notoriety and popularity as a culture,
And having records sold in success, the split became with the industry dividing us.
You know, having this kind of hip-hop and that kind of hip-hop.
Because we came from the era where we were all under one roof.
And we shared the culture, we shared the audiences.

community and it changed with the competitive nature of selling records.
And then I think, um, this is my highly subjective opinion.
Anything that's moving positive and uplifting people, powers that be are trying to figure out how to stop that shit.
So that's when, yeah, mid-'90s, the divide started to happen.
