I came out of that knowing I wanted to be in a position to make those decisions about our country's foreign policy, about war and peace and the well-being of our brothers and sisters in uniform, both while they're in uniform and after they lay it down.
I didn't know exactly where I wanted to be, like, you know, where in the government or what position.
I looked at a lot of different things.
But ultimately, that's what drove me to run for Congress.
And I...
still carry that sense of responsibility and that sense of purpose with me today.
It was never about, I had zero interest in chasing a political title or a specific office or a job.
It's about where and how can I make the most positive impact in service to our country.
And so when I was elected to Congress,
I was frankly shocked by all of this stuff being thrown at me.
It was the Democratic Party, and they're like, I wasn't even sworn into office yet.
I went to the Democratic Convention.
