All they have to do is say the magic words and then they're allowed to stay.

Now, those of you who either are part of the immigration system, meaning you are here as a legal immigrant, or you're familiar with the immigration system, you know what that means.

Permanent legal status is green card, green card.

A green card is a path to citizenship.

Once you score a green card, you are on track, if you so desire, to become a United States citizen.

That's how it works.
