Back then, if we didn't go, we were grounded for a day or two, you know.
There was no phones back then, so if you were out playing and you knew your karate or taekwondo was on at 7 o'clock, say, and you weren't back in time and you were late, we were grounded for a day or two.
So we wanted to leave, my parents wouldn't let us leave, but my ma says, when you get to a black belt, you can leave.
So me and my brother, my brother's obviously three years older than me, but he got to a black belt and he was gone and then...
We got to that, we got two black belts and then we left Taekwondo and then we went from Taekwondo into football.
Started football, a teenager anyway.
And I played for a local team in Cabaret, Dingle United and... Edge, what a good player you were.
I could run on a football pitch anyway.
I was with a local team in Cabaret, yeah, Dingle for a good chunk of my life anyway.
And then I ended up signing for Sheriff OEC and...
Two years I was with Sheriff, won a good few trophies with them.
I was happy because I didn't win too much when I was with Ingle and I didn't want to finish football and not have what I put into the game.
At least I came away with some sort of trophies, you know.
And then one day I got injured playing for Sheriff and it was an ankle injury but I couldn't kick the ball for some reason but I could run.
So the injury, whatever it was, I could still run.
I was at home and I remember two of my mates, Justin and Dara, they were running marathons and stuff.
And he says, there's a ticket there for the Dublin Marathon if you want to do it.
And I says, I might do that actually.
