I think that was 2017, 2018.
I went back to football and I think I'd done another three weeks in football and I said, that's it, I'm going to take up this running now.
I was going out on my own, just every run was just flat to the mat, just doing things arseways.
And I was in denial thinking I needed a running coach, you know, because I had all the background and running with football and all that type of thing.
I ended up joining the No Harriers up on the Cunningham Road there.
And there was a coach up there, Willie Smith.
So I used to go up to them every Tuesday and Thursday.
And he had me doing intervals and stuff.
And I was like, this is totally different to what I was doing.
And he was telling me, easy runs have to be easy.
And when it's hard, go hard.
Even when I was going home then, I was doing my easy runs hard.
So I was just doing things the harsh way, as you know.
And then I was going into a couple of races and then Kevin English was, I was seeing him at a few races and stuff and he was always pulling me and saying, you need to go and get a coach and stuff.
And that went on for a while and I was still in denial about a coach.
And then I said, you know what, fuck it, I'm just going to get a coach.
And then I ended up going with Kevin for a while.
And then the structure of a plan and consistency and the discipline that I put into it, everything was just improving as I went on.
I was getting to a stage where I was like, right, I'm at a decent enough marathon time here.
How am I going to get to the next level?
