And I thought in that moment, why can you not have like just the if you don't if you don't know what you think instinctively and stick by it, you end up coming unstuck.
And I do think that is part of it.
And I do think that there is an absence of politics.
And fundamentally, if this was and this is why what happens next is so important.
in terms of how we conduct ourselves as a party and how we have a contest that's a battle of ideas, not personalities.
Because if it was just a case that the problem with government is style...
Easy problem to solve.
It is true to say that we're guilty of reeling off the great things this government's doing as shopping lists.
And that is a problem because the thing about shopping lists, you write them down because you can never remember them.
And we always talk in shopping lists in government.
So we definitely need better storytelling.
That's true.
But the comms, and everyone likes to beat up the comms people, the comms is only as good as the substance.
And you're not telling me that across the, what is it now, four different directors of communication we've had, different characters, different stars, different experience.
Exactly.
You're not telling me that they're all useless comms people.
They were talented comms people.
That's not the problem.
The comms can only reflect the substance.
And so what comes next has to be a battle of ideas.
