And I have been and have always been a friend of Israel, Israel's right to exist, to defend itself, and of my progressive friends in Israel who want to see a two-state solution.

But I've also been consistent about Palestinian human rights.

I've called for sanctions against Israeli settlements as a Labour backbencher donkeys years ago.
