He's such a soundstage, interior design-oriented person. And something about Gene Hackman out in those streets is just classic. It's very on-brand for Hackman and very disorienting for Wes Anderson. And the Tenenbaums is greater for it because there's a tension there that exists between his energy and the movie at large's energy.
