And so there was enough light and we could all see each other.

It was actually...

relatively calm.

And there were a couple of things I remember.

One guy said, oh, we've got to go get the people on deck.

And I'm like, well, there's nothing we can do about them right at the moment.

If you open that hatch, we'll just sink.

And so...

We are standing there in about a metre of water.

I mean, these boats have a big keel, and so we assume that the keel has actually must have fallen off because a boat shouldn't be stable at 180 degrees.

But, of course, what happened is that we had eight people standing

on the boat upside down with all these sails and we had maybe a metre of water.

And so in that situation, it's actually stable at 180 degrees.

Yes.

But because you've now got a large volume of air, if you picture a cup that you turn upside down and you push it down into a sink of water...

the air is contained within the cup.

And so that was the situation that we were in.

No, people were not panicking, but one of the crew got a little excited and he was suggesting to me that I needed immediately to send out a Mayday call.
