I remember the biggest thing was that Noel Goldthorpe signed with the Noosa Pirates and it was the biggest story I'd ever done.

I was like, oh my God, this is amazing.

You know what?

Like the people that I would work with from the clubs, they were fantastic.

You know, I'd call them and say, what do you got on this weekend?

You know, who's a bit of a yarn?

That's all I've wanted to come out and do this or got a young kid on debut.

whatever it was, and it was really the pushback really only or the sort of dismissal really only came from inside the newsroom.

Yeah, from like news directors who were like, you sure you don't want to do weather or something?

I don't like weather.

I don't know anything about weather.

I don't want to talk about footy.

Oh no, that was direct feedback.

It was like, I know I've lost multiple jobs, you know, where they say, oh, we don't think you're serious.

You know, sports never going to work for a young female.

It is really nice to see when I have young women who are either graduating high school or university and they say, hey, listen, I want to be a sports journalist.

You know, what do you reckon?

And so they'll send me an email and we get them in to do work experience or I reach out to my old contacts at nine or seven or whatever.
