In August of 1914, in retaliation for President Huartes seizing of three American sailors in a Mexican port town, the US Military sent about 6,000 marines and Navy personnel to estyablish martial law in what was alreaedy a very lawless area in wartorn Mexico. Jack London was there and witnessed a morning in court presided by a Marine who was assigned to establish law and keep order.
